David Clark H10-13.4 Headset

"This headset is very comfortable to wear over long period of time, even when consciously thinking about wearing it, you'll struggle to feel it on your head. The gel ear seals have large cushions as well as the headband cushion and there's not much pressure from the headband - however it will still stay in place so no need to worry about it slipping off. The gel ear seals may get a little sweaty if it's a warm day but there is the option of the cotton covers (not included). The mic-boom is fully articulated and can be positioned however you wish to mould it. The headband is adjustable to a wide range of sizes, though not recommended for young children (I'd say 16+). This headset does have great quality in the speakers and in the microphone, and the noise attenuation is quite good - though sunglasses may break the seal and let a little more noise in. The included bag is good quality, a good carry handle and a pocket for a checklist or some small paperwork like ID etc, but not big enough for a logbook or kneeboard or anything like that. Overall, this product is a step up from the entry level products offered by other vendors, or the cheap headsets that schools may offer for use. If you are studying your PPL this headset is recommended as an investment that will keep you going well after you have attained your licence and will accompany you for 00's of hours after. Once you have "outgrown" this headset and go for an ANR one then this would be ideal for your passengers."

"I fly fixed wing microlights and for the past 3 years I've been using a much lower budget headset from a local manufacturer. Worked absolutely fine but after around 30 minutes of wearing the headset the top of my head would start aching. Soon, I needed a second set so I could use my current set for passengers. I've borrowed some 13.4's from a friend before and thought they were great. I'm not in need of all the fancy gizmos, noise cancelling this and bluetooth that, things that the uber expensive headsets from Bose offer. I just needed something that keeps the sound out, allows me to hear calls clearly and sits on my bonce without me noticing it and isn't stupid money. I went ahead and purchased the 13.4. Clearly a lot of pride taken in making them as the packaging is very nice and most importantly they do what I want them to do. They are quiet (I wear glasses too) and the gel earpieces really make a difference there as well with comfort around the ears. I can hear nice and clearly, the mic boom I really like and most importantly I can wear them for ages and not even notice I've got them on. No aching at the top of my head. So, very happy. If you're looking for something uncomplicated, simple, comfy that does what they need, then these I recommend."
