Officially licensed by the UK Ministry of Defence, these striking cufflinks commemorate the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows. Every cufflink is laser etched to include the aircraft type and the red arrow you would find stencilled on to each of the red arrow helmets.

Presented in their very own gift box, these cufflinks have been made using aluminium reclaimed from the airframe of a Hawk T1 that formerly flew as part of the famous squad.

  • Gift Set includes:
  • Aircraft information card - find out more about the Hawk T1
  • serialised laser etched info plaque
  • Certificate of authenticity
  • display plaque

In 2019 Icarus Originals secured the licence from the Ministry of Defence to produce genuine cufflinks made entirely from the airframe aluminium of a former Red Arrows Hawk T1 aircraft. The aircraft, a Hawk that served with the team during the 1980s was being adapted as a static display exhibit and so a limited portion of the forward and central fuselage were obtained to produce these cufflinks.

Like all our products, these Official Red Arrows Hawk cufflinks are manufactured entirely in the UK. The products are produced through a combination of advanced 3D scanning, and CAD design to be stylised replicas of the iconic Hawk jets.

They are made from the melted down airframe aluminium of an original Red Arrows Hawk T1, with the casting and finishing taking place within Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter – home of the UK’s jewellery industry.
Each cufflink is individually cast and hand finished by expert craftsmen.

This Official Red Arrows Cufflinks were shortlisted for Gift of the Year 2020

HISTORY OF THE RED ARROW HAWK T1

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, is one of the world’s premier aerobatic display teams. Representing the speed, agility and precision of RAF, the team is the public face of the service and a true British icon. They assist in recruiting to the Armed Forces, act as ambassadors for the United Kingdom and promote the best of British. Flying distinctive Hawk fast-jets, the team is made up of pilots, engineers and support staff with frontline, operational experience.

With their combination of close formations and precision flying, the Red Arrows have been displaying since 1965. The team originally consisted of seven pilots flying Folland Gnat T1 jets until that famous Diamond Nine formation was introduced in 1968 with the addition of two new pilots and aircraft.

In late 1979, the Gnat was replaced by their current jet, the two-seater Hawk T1 advanced pilot trainer aircraft. Clad in its world-famous red paintwork, the version of the aircraft used by the Red Arrows is powered by a single Rolls-Royce Turbomeca engine which produces 5,700lb of thrust.

To produce the famous red, white and blue trails seen in displays, each Red Arrows Hawk carries a ventral 318Itr tank, divided into separate compartments for the colours. Fluids in this tank are pumped into three jet pipe nozzles at the rear of the aircraft. The trails are produced when the fluid meets the heat from the engine exhaust.

The Red Arrows team, which is based at RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire, has performed thousands of displays all over the world.

Despite debuting more than 40 years ago, upgraded versions of the Hawk have continued to dominate international markets as a fast jet trainer and light combat fighter. The Hawk is also used by the RAF’s 100 Squadron in an aggressor role where it simulates enemy forces to provide training for front-line units.
