This bag has quickly become a favorite at Sporty’s Academy, our flight school. With dedicated pockets for a computer and iPad, you’ll find yourself using this bag every day for work or the gym, as well as flying. With a heavy duty carrying handle and padded, no-slip shoulder straps, the Flight Gear Tailwind Bag will put up to the rigors of daily flight training abuse.
Functional storage for important items while keeping quick access to the gear you need the most is key to the design of the Tailwind backpack. Two open top side pockets are perfect for a radio, water bottle, or windshield spray bottle. A flashlight/fuel tester pocket on each side of the bag makes preflight easy and provides quick access without having to fumble with zippers.
An organizer pocket on the front of the bag is great for pens, business cards, logbooks, and more. An integrated key clip helps to keep your keys from getting lost and a zipper pocket keeps important $100 hotdog menus safely stowed.
A velvet-lined top pocket is perfect for a set of reading glasses or sunglasses, but also makes a great catchall for loose items that you normally keep in your pockets. The heavy-duty, reinforced carrying handle makes maneuvering with this bag easy.
The padded computer pocket is sized to fit a laptop and an iPad, including larger Macbooks and iPad Pros. An elastic strap with a hook and loop end is used to secure each for transport. Between these two pockets, there is plenty of room left over for a few charts or flight plan forms. A thru hole at the top of the pocket provides access to the main pocket, so you can charge your iPad with a battery brick (sold separately) in the main compartment.
The main pocket has a ton of space for stowing large gear. A unique headset hanger allows you to suspend your headset from the top of the bag, rather than let it get beat up at the bottom. Two side mesh pockets are perfect for backup battery bricks or barf bags. A gusseted front flap allows the main pocket to open without falling all the way to the floor of your cockpit.
A unique Gear Mod wall is found at the back of the main pocket. This wall was specifically designed with a soft, velvet-like material. This is perfect for attaching Gear Mods, independent pockets that attach with hook and loop fasteners and make it easy to further customize your Flight Gear bag. Need an extra pocket for a backup battery? There’s a Gear Mod for that.
The small details are where this bag really shines. Thick plastic hardware allows the bag to be sturdy, yet lightweight. The unique crosshatch fabric is ripstop and moisture resistant. While you can’t go deep sea diving with it, you can run from the plane to the FBO in the rain. Small loops are found underneath the carrying handle and are perfect for hanging sunglasses or attaching gear with carabiners. The high visibility interior keeps small items from getting lost in the dark corners of your bag. The padded, breathable material under the shoulder straps makes heavy loads comfortable and keeps your back cool.
