English Electric Lightning Wooden Model

This model of the English Electric Lightning has been carefully hand carved in great detail from solid mahogany. The wood used is from a sustainable or recycled source. Multiple layers of clear vanquish are applied for a quality finish.

The Lightning was a Cold War Era supersonic fighter aircraft. It was designed and built by English Electric (now absorbed into BAE). The Lightning was the only all-British Mach 2 fighter aircraft and in its almost 30 year service (1960-88) with the RAF it is credited with only a single kill. In 1972 a Lightning shot down a British Harrier whose pilot had ejected due to engine failure. The Harrier was heading into East Germany so was brought down to avoid a diplomatic incident.
